The Spinning Top model
Designing relevant information for managers

For a number of years, management information has been at the forefront of attention in both theory and practice. Organizations wrestle with the question who should receive what information. This book introduces a model: the Spinning Top model  that helps to answer that question. The factors in the model determine management information needs.
Building on the model the book also introduces a typology: the relevance typology. After establishing the type of relevance typology the most appropriate management information can easily be deduced.

Oscar van Leeuwen is professor Internal Control and Accounting information systems at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He introduced the Spinning Top model based on his research. Besides this Oscar has a varied experience both as a manager and as an advisor. He is working as a consultancy partner for Improven in the area of financial management advisory for both profit and not for profit organizations.

Jon Bergsma is assistant professor in the field of Internal Control and Accounting information systems at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He also holds a position at Windesheim University of Applied Sciences in Zwolle. Jon does research with respect to the application of key controls by profit and not for profit organizations. He wrote several books on the subject of internal control and helps organizations to improve the quality of their internal control system.
